Govt.-run primary school in Triplicane open for admission

  Admission is open now at the Orunginaindha Kulaindhaigal Maiyam located on Venkatrangam Street,  Triplicane.   This school is managed by the state government from 2010. Shakila is in-charge of this school. She said that admissions go on till September when Vijayathasami is celebrated. The teachers go out into the area voluntarily and talk to parents of young children and try and get them admitted to this school. Final touch for residential blocks in Santosh Nagar in Egmore

  New residential blocks are getting the final touch in Santosh Nagar in Egmore. These are developed by the TN Urban Habitat Board which takes care of housing of the poor. The local project commended in 2020. The are a total of 560 flats here. The old tenement blocks of Slum Clearance Board were demolished and the new ones constructed. Staff at this site said they expect the blocks to be ready for occupation in 4 to 6 months. - By Lavanya B.

Kumbhabhishekam of Kottur temple in January 2024.

  The kumbhabhishekam of Kottur Prasana Venkatesh Perumal Temple is going to be held on January 2024. It will be on for three days. The temple staff say that this temple is over 1000 years old. They said that this place called Kottur was once called as Kottu idai konda ooru. During the repair work in the temple, people can come and worship the god in balalayam.   The chief executive of the temple is Narayani. This shop in Mettukuppam sells wheelchairs

  J. Selvanathan, the owner of Sam Wheelchair Solutions in Mettukuppam is a differently-abled person. He says that since he knew the difficulties faced by differently abled people, he decided to start this shop to sell things that these people need. The shop was started in 2018. Special Sunday service at church in Kilpauk

  Tamil Evangelical Lutheran Church located at Balfour Road in Kilpauk will celebrate Special Song English Service on the first Sunday evening of the month. This was said by the sexton of this church, Anand Raj.   In this service, members of churches around Chennai will participate.  This is an old church, founded by Lutheran missionaries.   The present Presbyter in Charge is Rev. Old Temple in Ice House being prepared for consecration event

  The Thulukanatha Amman Temple on Dr Natesan Road, Ice House, Sudandira Nagar, Triplicane, is said to be over 700 years old. The temple staff said that, long ago, this temple was maintained by the local Muslim people and that is how it got its name. After that, it has been maintained by the forefathers of Anandh poojari; from the past four generations.   Repair work on the temple is going on. Pavement hawker sells brooms; on Dr. Alagappa Road

  On the pavement of Dr. Alagappa Road, near C.S.I Wesley Church, Egmore, there is a woman who sells broomsticks. Her name is Padmavathi. She says she has been doing this for 4 years. She says she is 63 years old and she divorced her husband and has been a single parent for her two children. Broomsticks are sold for ₹50 / ₹100. - By V. Lavanya

A senior couple on Ambedkar Nagar’s Pillayar Kovil Street are running a snacks stall. This is in Thiruvottiyur, Chennai - 19 The unique feature here is that you can buy a vada or a bajji for one rupee. Akka kadai snacks stall in Kilpauk

Raj             Kesial runs Akka Kadai on Ormes Road in Kilpauk.   It is a simple tiffin push-cart stall parked on the roadside, which offers home-made food but only after dusk.   People working as labourers in that area find this the best place to eat. This stall is open at 7pm and closes at 11pm.   Kesial says her daughter Hepsi died during the corona period. 

Home for Homeless; Royapettah

Annai Anbalayaa Trust runs a Home for homeless people on TTK Road, Royapettah. This is under Greater Chennai Corporation. This is a temporary stay space - people can stay here for six months only.    Accommodation is only for 50 members.   If you see homeless people living on the road, inform the toll-free number 1913.
