Special Assembly program held in CSI Bain School on re-opening day

  A special Assembly program was held in CSI Bain School which re-opened at Ormes Road at Kilpauk.       The reopening was for 6th to 12th students, as per the government order.        N. Lily Lusia, principal, began the Assembly programme with a prayer.She introduced chief guests Rev. Dr. Immanuel Titus and Parthasarathy (local community city leader).        To celebrate World Environmental day, students performed on stage, sang special songs and spoke on the environment - in English and Tamil.        One student spoke in English on the theme for World Child Labour day.        Finally, Rev. Re--opening Day at Government High School in Kottur

  The Government High School in Kottur reopened on June 12 with students of 6th to 10th classes attending school.   The teachers presented a flower as an invitation to the children.  The school held a special assembly to welcome the children.   Principal Maheshwari Kalpana addressed the students and motivated them. The Principal said construction work is on on this campus and from the next year, the school will be upgraded to higher secondary level, with classrooms in the new building.   Local ward councillor Kathir Murugan attended the school assembly and spoke. Councillor in Thiruvottiyur ensures key civic works are done

  M. Samuel Draviyam is the ward councillor for GCC’s 6th ward in Thiruvottiyur west zone.  Since the councillor was away, his assistant R.Srinivasan explained the details of the work of the councillor this far. Stormwater drainage system has been laid in R S Nagar and adjoining areas.   Metrowater is also being supplied to all areas. Anna Centenary Library in Kotturpuram offers a variety of memberships

  Anna Centenary Library in Kotturpuram has a variety of memberships.   The individual membership fee for the first timers is Rs.250, the annual fee is Rs.100.   Family membership covers four persons - two adults and two kids. First-time membership fee Rs.500, annual fee Rs. 200.   Senior citizens above 60 can join. First-time membership fee Rs. 100, annual fee Rs. 50. Students membership - first-time membership fee Rs. 150, annual fee Rs. 75.  Membership fees should be paid in cash.   Facilities for library members are - access to own book reading section. From 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Access to E-books and E-magazine. Access to 7th-floor E-library and computers. Access to Wi-Fi facility in the library. To become a member, you must carry photo ID proof and Aadhar card and two passport-size photos.   Muthal Thalaimurai Learning Center is in Kannagi Nagar, Okkiyam Thuraipakkam.   It was opened by V. Iraianbu, chief secretary of Tamil Nadu.   It has been opened for the sake of women's empowerment.  Here, driving classes, beauty-care training and sari embroidery classes are held. There are no fees.   Students are from the age of 18 to 37 years can sign up.   The classes are held in the morning shift and in the evening shift. 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. and 1.30 to 5.30 p.m. - Monday to Saturday.  Physically disabled students can also register here.   - By Sneha E.

SWD work on in some areas of Thiruvottiyur.

  Construction of storm water drains is underway in Kalyani Chetty Nagar and surrounding residential areas of Thiruvottiyur.   Since some people have encroached on the road here, the work is slowing down.   Preethi Catering Service is located in Dr Santhosh Nagar, Egmore. The owner of the shop is Dhanasekar K. His wife Jamuna.D also helps. In the morning, you get idli, pongal, poori and dosa and vada. In the afternoon, there is white rice, biryani and brinji. Many office-workers are regular customers here.   Dhanasekar is the main cook and he is a specialist in making sweets because he worked in Archana Sweets in Cuddalore. He takes orders.   This sugarcane juice hawker on Pillayar Kovil Street, Triplicane is making good business in this summer time. Ayyaswamy runs this streetside joint and he says he has been here for twenty years.   For 200ml of sugarcane juice, he charges Rs.20.   It is open all 7 days of the week.   He says sale goes down by nearly 50 percent down in monsoon season but in summer he makes good profit.   - By Durgadarshini

This Amma Unavagam is busy some days, dull some days

  The Amma Unavagam in Whannels Road,Egmore caters of the poor, daily-wage labourers and others. Staffer Ramani said   that seven people are working under a supervisor. The Unavagam provides breakfast, lunch and dinner. In the morning, they sell pongal and idly-sambhar.   In the afternoon, there is lemon rice and curry-leaves rice. In the late evening, for dinner, they sell chappathi and dal. Sometimes, many people eat here but sometimes the number is small. Short spell of rain in Teynampet

  It rained in Teynampet on Tuesday evening for 45 minutes. The food stall staff at Balaji Hotel in Elango Street had to shift their things inside the hotel as the rain came hard. This store is busy as school re-opening draws near

  Blahi Stationary Store on Lloyds Road has been a busy place as students begin to go back to school. Shop owner K.M. Mohammad Farooq said that there has been a high demand for items like lunch bag (Rs.49), school bags sold at Rs.300 and water bottles sold at Rs.30.    This store also sells long notebooks, record notes and charts.  For school students, products like wrapping paper, pens, pencils and ruled notebooks are on sale.
